Our History

Since being formed in 1981, Guildford Community Church has emphasised people before buildings or programmes. Not too difficult really, as we’ve never owned a building.

When we began, we were loosely grouped with what were called house churches but later became known as new churches, which is still the term that is most frequently used.

Our core values have always been around putting greater emphasis on 'being' church rather than attending a meeting. We want to put Jesus at the centre of all we do, express commitment to each other and reach out. There are still quite a few people who have been in GCC all along but obviously many new faces as well.

Over the years we have become far more diverse as new people join and new projects are initiated. In many ways we are now much more a relational network of people and groups who are working out their faith in many different areas - locally and overseas.
